Prenatal Care Course
It is our desire to provide these women with the knowledge and tools to cope successfully in their pregnancy by offering them a comprehensive preparedness course.

The course features a biblical view of pregnancy and the importance of the following:
  • Prenatal healthcare
  • Fetal development
  • Nutrition
  • Sexual integrity
  • Sexually transmitted diseases

The ultimate goal of the course is to have pregnant women and girls care for themselves and their unborn babies so that both mother and child have the best possible chance of being emotionally and physically healthy. 


Prenatal Care is a four-week course offered three times a year on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. for pregnant clients who desire to carry their children to term. Fathers and family members are encouraged to take the course as well.
 
 
Childbirth Preparation
Childbirth can be overwhelming, especially for first-time mothers. The objective of the class is to increase your knowledge of the childbirth process, relieve tension, and build your confidence in the delivery process.

The course presents a thorough look at the following:
  • Stages of labor & delivery
  • Physical changes
  • Emotional changes
  • Comfort measures
  • Pain management options
  • Breathing/relaxation techniques 

You are provided the necessary information and skills training that prepare you and/or your partners for the childbirth experience.

Schedule:

  • Four-week course
  • Held three times a year
  • Tuesday evenings
  • 6:30 to 8 pm

Pregnant clients are encouraged to bring a coach that will assist her in the birthing process.

 

Newborn Healthcare

The course reviews newborn health and postpartum care during the first year of the baby’s life with practical hands-on guidance for:

  • Realistic expectations
  • Umbilical cord care
  • Circumcision care
  • Bathing
  • Feeding
  • Safety (home and auto)
  • Understanding infant needs in the first months of life

Through information dissemination and skills training, the goal of the class is to reduce the anxiety and stress of the mother in caring for her child.

  • Tuesday evenings
  • 6:30 - 8pm

Expectant mothers are encouraged to invite partners and family members for support


Parenting Young Children

The Parenting Young Children course will give you the knowledge and skills necessary to parent your children from birth to school age.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Understanding your child
  • Understanding behavior
  • Building self-esteem
  • Communication
  • Learning to cooperate
  • Discipline

Parents learn to communicate and co-parent, giving their child the best possible life.

Schedule:

  • Six-week course
  • Offered three times a year
  • Held Thursdays evenings
  • 6:30 - 8 pm

This class was designed for individuals and couples who desire to better understand their role as parents. This course satisfies the requirement for those who have been court-ordered to take a parenting class.

Educational workshops are offered throughout the year on parenting issues related to infancy to adolescence.

Healthy Relationships 

The Healthy Relationships course is designed to help single mothers develop relationships that are healthy to both her and her child.

The course helps young moms develop the necessary skills that will enable them to be positive role models for their children. Topics covered include:

  • Understanding Yourself
  • Goal setting
  • Decision Making
  • Avoiding Pregnancy
  • Avoiding STD’s
  • Sexual Integrity
  • Developing Relationships
  • Overcoming Pressure
  • Developing Assertiveness
  • Building self-esteem
  • Improving decision making

The goal of the class is to decrease the number of teenage pregnancies, children born in single parent homes, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Healthy Relationships is an eight-week course designed for single mothers who have attended prenatal classes, however, we make the course available to all students, even those who are not sexually active.

 

Car Seat Safety Program  

This is an education and safety seat distribution program designed to reach limited-income families with children under six years of age in need of a car safety seat.

The families must own a car with workable seat belts and be willing to learn how to use it.

The class is one hour. Upon completion of the course, the Safe Riders Program provides parents with free car seats (one per family) as well as safety seat education.

 

Spiritual Growth Class 

The Spiritual Growth class is designed for clients who are new in their faith or desire to have a more meaningful relationship with Jesus.

The objective of the course is to connect biblical principles to one’s emotions, reasoning, and beliefs as the Holy Spirit gives understanding and knowledge of the Word of God.

 

The course is organized into two tracks:

  • Spiritual Growth I —Foundations: A 12-week course exploring the foundations of Christianity using Dr. Tony Evans’ book, Life Essentials. 

 

  • Spiritual Growth II —Bible Study: A 12-week course featuring scripture reading and class discussion from selected passages and topics.

 

The client will relate their spiritual condition to their current challenges in life with the goal of learning more effective ways of dealing with problems and developing a healthy lifestyle that is more Christ-centered.
